If you make $ with your embroidery machine, or want to, there are at least three great reasons to attend a live event in the embroidery/apparel decoration industry. Why attend?
1. The training and information sharing you get at the event. This is where you learn the cutting edge stuff - before it gets discussed elsewhere. Sometimes the best information comes from the teachers at the front of the class. Sometimes a fantastic idea comes from the person you have lunch with, sometimes it comes from a conversation you have in the restaurant at the end of the day.
2. The contacts you make. Almost every strong embroidery friendship I have (other than ones made in groups like this) is with someone I met at a live event. There is nothing like meeting someone face-to-face to short circuit the relationship-building process. Make even more friends in the embroidery world!
3. The inspiration and camaraderie from meeting and mingling with other people that are as passionate about embroidery & apparel decoration as you are. I remember the first time I met someone who had a very successful embroidery business. I learned that they were "regular" people and that I too could achieve my dreams if I stayed focused on my goals.
So, that leads to the next question which events should you go to?
While it is true that we host trade shows for embroiderers, you will benefit from ANY event you attend! One of my favorite events is NNEP's Embroidery Mart, July 27-28, 2012 in Nashville, TN, http://www.embroiderymart.com
but I'm completely biased, of course  (that is the show that I create and host each year). Embroidery Mart features free product demonstrations and training by exhibitors on Friday and Saturday as well as 1000's of products in the trade show.
There are other events to consider: DAX, ISS, Printwear, ASI, PPAI they all have excellent events coming up as well.
BOTTOM LINE: Make it a point to get to an event. Yes, that means you have to travel. Yes, that means you might have to leave your comfort zone. Yes, that means you have to carve the time out of your busy schedule.
In my experience, nothing else will make as big an impact on your business. Just do it!
